A moment to write down so that I never forget....

Our grandchildren accept us for ourselves, without rebuke or effort to change us,
as no one in our entire lives has ever done, not our parents, siblings, spouses, friends -
and hardly ever our own grown children.
  ~Ruth Goode

I kept Aubrey and Lainey today while Krisha attended a funeral. It was just another normal play date for the four of us (Aubrey, Lainey, Eli and myself). But, there was one moment that Aubrey and I shared that I have to post on my blog and write in my Prayer Journal. Because, although it will be stamped on my heart forever,  my mind might forget.

So, Aubrey, if one day  D has Alzheimer's, dementia, or just gets confused and can't remember things.....please read this post to me so that my mind can feel the love that my heart has for you and your sweetness.

I was in the bathroom with Aubrey putting her pants back on after she had been on the potty. I was down on my knees at her level, when she took my face in both of her little hands, looked me in the eyes and said, "D, I like your face."

The tone in her voice told me, what she was really saying meant that it didn't matter if I have wrinkles, age spots, a mustache that has to be waxed occasionally, or circles under my eyes. Because she could see past all of that and what she saw in my face was special, because it belonged to her D.

I love you Aubrey!
