"Pack a Shoe Box"

Our church, Harvest Church, along with several other churches in the Northport/Tuscaloosa area will be "packing shoe boxes" for Operation Christmas Child soon. This project is done through

"Samaritan's Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world."

"Every shoe box offers an opportunity to share the Good News
of the Savior with a hurting child."
 Franklin Graham, President, Samaritan's Purse
  • 8 MILLION CHILDREN received shoe boxes last year
  • OVER 130 COUNTRIES have received shoe boxes since 1993
  • ONE MISSION: To demonstrate God's love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

I want to urge you, if your church is not a part of this great ministry, that you get them involved. You can also become involved as an individual, or with family and friends.

This afternoon I went to the Dollar Tree in Northport to purchase items for our boxes. There were three other ladies in the store doing the same thing! We did not know each other or attend the same church, but we had a great time picking out things to go into the boxes.

However,  the most heartwarming sight was a little boy (7-8 years old) and his sister (4-5 years old) helping too. Each child was picking out items to go into a shoebox that would be given to a child in their age group.

It filled my heart to know that these children "got it"......they understood that Christmas is about giving to those less fortunate than we are. I pray that Aubrey and Lainey  will  "get it" when they are older too. I want to start a yearly tradition with them to shop for items to go in the shoe boxes for little girls their ages.

The 2010 National Collection Week is November 15-22. All the information needed can be found at the web site above. Or if you would just like to donate items for us to pack at Harvest Church, please leave me a comment.

i LOVE LOVE LOVE shoebox ministry. Our church has participated for many years and I still cry every time I see the video each year. every.single.time. We also always try to take our Sunday School class to pick out toys for the children to give them a chance to help out firsthand with the packing....my prayer is that memory will stick with them for life. I think it's a such a sweet idea to include Aubrey and Lainey...precious! One of these years I want to go to one of the main distribution centers to help out even more with the packing....or take a mission trip to help deliver!! That would be so cool! :)

We for many years have done "Pack a Shoe Box." We pack boxes and use the age of our grandchildren as guide lines. Doing this gives the boxes even more special meaning. Along with our "Baptist Children's Village," we will add the CMC.(Chaplain Ministering Center.) Our Army Chaplain's use the items sent in witnessing to our military as well as NATO troops serving in that area. The local people can also use the center. Wow! what away to witness.
